The U.S. Small Business Administration(SBA) awarded Jim Frichette, of Ellensburg, the SCORE Volunteer of-the-year Award. The award was presented during the district meeting at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake on Wednesday September 16th. This award was for Mr. Frichette's successful efforts setting up the Kittitas County division of SC ORE (The Service Corps of Retired Executives), free
counseling for Kittitas County entrepreneurs and small businesses, establishing the Mid-Columbia Chapter 590 Internet Web site, assisting in setting up computers at many of the areas locations and establishing a Mid-Columbia Chapter e-mail counseling system.
Mr. Frichette a native of Ellensburg has 40 years of worldwide management, marketing and technical development in the plastics, semiconductor and computer industries in Chicago and Silicon Valley. A graduate of Ellensburg High School and CWU, he is now semi-retired designing and managing web pages for corporate and small business; volunteering with RSVP; designing and updating the Ellensburg Senior Center web page, assisting Headstart and Senior Center with computerization and web access.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to helping start up and existing businesses with the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner and joint venture with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). SCORE volunteers serve as "Counselors to America's Small Business." Working and retired executives and business owners donate their time and expertise as volunteer business counselors and

Clients can meet face-to-face with a business expert, who has experience owning or operating a business. SCORE assistance is available in Ellensburg, (Kittitas County), Wenatchee, Moses Lake, Yakima, Kennewick,
Pasco, Omak, Richland, Sunnyside, and Walla Walla.
According to Mr. Frichette "Our Mission--to provide free assistance to the Kittitas County area small business community with counseling, workshops and mentoring services for start-ups and existing businesses with particular problems and needs." A counselor is available weekly for persons interested in meeting with a SCORE counselor about business problems, including financing, cash flow, business plan, sales/marketing, personnel or starting a new business.
SCORE is also recruiting people with a business background in Kittitas County who've had successful business careers and are interested in counseling those who wish to start a business or those who are already in business and need advice on how best to solve a problem or grow the business.
